Course Description: In this course, students will be presented with concepts of earth systems and conservation that will build upon concepts learned in middle school science. The units of study will include the Lithosphere, Hydrosphere, Atmosphere, Biosphere and Astronomy.  Students will learn through a variety of methods including reading, lecture, media, discussion, critical thinking activities and laboratory work.

OPPORTUNITY FOR LAB EXPLORATION / EXTRA CREDIT

As the year comes to a close there will be some time to do a few lab activities that we did not get an opportunity to complete in the fast pace of the course.  Each student is welcome to submit a lab activity for review to earn extra credit (10 points) on a previous assignment.  If your lab is selected you may replace a bad grade (daily grade) with 100%.  Here are the requirements for selection:

*Clear connection to one or more concepts of this course
*Appropriate for grade levels (7-12th)
*Materials are available at our school or easily accessible (affordable)
*Can be completed in 1 hour or less (including clean up)
*The submission must include a complete lab write up that can be described in 1 to 2 printed pages. (including: title, objective / connection to class concepts, materials, procedures, and at least 3 discussion questions)
*Create your own lab (please type) or print one found online
(If you use an established lab as a reference to create one an activity of your own, please submit both).

Selected lab activities may be used in this class or saved for future use.
