Las Noticias de la Clase/ Class News

Dear Parents/Guardians,

As part of the cultural aspect and global awareness of the language, students will be learning about “Día de Los Muertos” or Day of the Dead from October 29th to November 2nd during Spanish. We will be discussing the history, the purpose of the holiday and how it’s celebrated in many Latin American countries. Students will watch videos, learn and have discussions about the holiday, and color/decorate skulls. Below is a website that provides more background information if you are interested in acquiring more knowledge about it.

I will also place an “ofrenda” or offering and you are more than welcome to stop by and see it (Oct 31- Nov 2). The “ofrenda” will represent elements necessary for life on Earth, different types of food, and pictures of deceased family members/pets. If you’d like, please send a picture of a loved one who has passed away so that it’s placed on the “ofrenda.” If you feel more comfortable sending a picture of a famous philosopher, singer, actor, astronomer etc., I will gladly place them on the “ofrenda.”

I am excited about this topic and hope that your child is able to participate. Learning about culture helps us understand other people’s perspectives, patterns of behavior, and contributions to the world at large.  If you are not comfortable with your child participating in this activity, please send me an email at with your child’s name and grade. An alternative assignment will be provided.

Please send pictures with your child before October 24th, 2018 or drop them in my mailbox with your child’s name and grade for a safe return.

Thank you very much!

Señorita Brown
