River Mill Academy Cancels Field Trips, Restricts Visitors, and Cancels or Postpones Large Gatherings

River Mill Academy has announced new protocols to help limit the spread of the novel coronavirus COVID-19. The Board approved the changes as state officials have announced the virus has spread to more North Carolina counties.

Effective Friday March 13, River Mill Academy is:

  • Cancelling all field trips scheduled between March 16 and April 6.
  • Restricting visitor and volunteer access to the school to parents and guardians only. Parents or guardians may visit their students in the front lobby only. Parents will not be allowed in the classrooms or the cafeteria. This includes Friday lunch.
  • Postponing or cancelling events with large numbers of attendees between March 16 and April 6. This includes the Miss RMA Pageant, Prom and Morp, and the Scholastic Book Fair.
  • Suspending all middle school and high school athletics through April 6 in accordance with the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA). No teams shall gather any team members together during this period for any reason. This includes all workouts, skill development, practices, and contests.
  • Moving all parent-oriented meetings to conference calls or online formats. This includes Board of Director and PTT meetings.

These actions will remain in place indefinitely as our goal is to help slow the spread of the virus in our school and community. River Mill Academy will continue to follow recommendations from the Alamance County Health Department, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NC DHHS), the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.

You can learn more about the coronavirus  CCOVID-19 and recommendations for keeping healthy at the North Carolina Health and Human Services website https://www.ncdhhs.gov/ or the Centers for Disease Control website https://www.cdc.gov/.

The Centers for Disease Control recommends these common sense steps to protect yourself and others from illness.

We realize that our students face disappointment due to cancelled and/or postponed trips and events. We are grateful for your support as River Mill Academy moves forward during an unprecedented and still dynamic situation. River Mill Academy will reevaluate policy changes and events scheduled for dates after April 6 as the situation changes. We will continue to keep families updated on our plans and preparations.
