Due to the closure of NC schools until May 15th, your child will be completing their school work from home. Please label and date any written work that your child completes. You can post pictures of their work each Monday on Class Dojo. This work is not to be graded, but it provides evidence that your child has been continuing their education while at home.

Reading

Each day practice reading on Get Epic.com for at least 20 minutes. Your child may also read from a book of their choice. You can document their reading using a homemade reading log.

-Have your child watch one of the read aloud videos each day, and then write down the answers to the questions.

  • What was the peddler’s problem in this story? How did he solve this problem?
  • Write about a time when you had a problem and tell me how you solved it.

  • What were some clues that told you the dog was a stray? If you find a dog in the street, how can you tell if he belongs to someone else?
  • In the story, the dog catcher said the dog was a stray and he was about to take Willy away from the kids. How did the children solve this problem? (this happens about 2:05 in the story if you need to go back and look)

Word Work


-Read poem 3 times a day for 5 days for fluency.

-Practice reading sight words from List 2 for 10 minutes each day. (If your child has mastered reading the words, have them practice spelling the words.) Pick 10 words to focus on for the week.

-Practice reading and spelling the following aw and au pattern words for the week: draw, jaw, awful, lawn, dawn, cause, author, sauce, pause, August

 Ways to practice include:          

              -Make flash cards with the words on them. Practice reading and spelling the words for 5 minutes each day.

              -Have your child sort the words each day by the au and aw pattern.

              -Rainbow write words three times each using crayons or colored pencils. (Rainbow writing is tracing the word three time with three different colors.)
