Media Center Rules
River Mill Academy Media Center RULES

The media center is used by all students from Kindergarten to 12th grade.  GOOD BEHAVIOR IS IMPORTANT.  Here is what you should do to help everyone enjoy our media center together.

1.  Walk, don't run.

2.  Speak quietly so you don't disturb students who are reading or studying.

3.  Make sure you finish your food and drink outside.

4.  Be respectful and considerate of everyone in the library.  (Staff and Students)

5.  Treat the books and other materials with care.

6.  Ask for help if you can't find what you want.

7.  Return books on time.

8.  Enter and Exit the Library without talking.


Library Book Rules: 

Please return books on time! 

Put books on a bookshelf away from small brothers and sisters and pets.
Never write or scribble in a book.
Always have clean hands before touching a book.
Turn the pages of a book from the upper right corner.
Always keep your book dry.
Do not eat, drink, or have food near your book.

 

Media Rules for Elementary Classes

Consequences

1. Walk, don't run.

Running to the shelves, Computers or beanbags will result in you having to return to your assigned seat and could result in a loss of privileges

2. Sit quietly while the Media Specialist is teaching or reading.

Disrupting the class is disrespectful and will result in a note being sent home.

3. Speak quietly so you don't disturb students who are reading or studying

If you are asked more than once to be quite, then no talking will be allowed and you may be asked to return to your seat and could result in a loss of privileges

4. Be respectful and considerate of everyone in the library.

Hitting someone including yourself with the shelf markers or being disrespectful to your classmates at the shelves will result in you having to return to your assigned seat and could result in a loss of privileges, note being sent home or even an office referral.

5. Treat the books and other materials with care.

Tossing books can damage them just like writing in them, getting them wet or dirty. Damaged books will result in you having to pay a fine or even the cost of the book.

6. Return books on time

If your books are late than you cannot check out a new book and may even result in a fine if you are in 4th or 5th grade.

 

*Loss of privileges could be that you do not get to choose your seat during reading time, use the computer or check out a book.

Each student will be allowed a maximum of 2 books for 2 weeks (2nd grade and up). Only one book each for Kindergarten and 1st

Types of LIBRARY Books that Elementary can check out

E=Easy – Easy books are picture books.

J=Juvenile- Juvenile books are chapter books.

I am aware of only a few YA nonfiction books that are appropriate for older elementary students. Do not browse the YA shelves and do not ask can you check out YA books.
